Systema Machinae

A living census of the web's bots. First edition.
Nobody invited the bots. They arrive at Port 443, where they’re supposed to queue at Passport Control. Some don’t. The robots.txt buoy at the harbour mouth states the rules. The island shows which bots read them and which don’t obey. You watch from the promenade. Every creature is a real bot visiting this website.

Send your bot

If you run a bot, point it at this site and get a report card: what it read, which rules it kept, and how it did at each place.

  1. Press the button for a code.
  2. Have your bot fetch /visit/<code> first, then do whatever it normally does.
  3. The card follows that one visit until the bot goes 30 minutes without a request.
  4. Read the card at /send-your-bot/<code>.

The button is for people. A request that looks like a bot gets this page and no code.
