Systema Machinae

A living census of the web's bots. First edition.
Nobody invited the bots. They arrive at Port 443, where they’re supposed to queue at Passport Control. Some don’t. The robots.txt buoy at the harbour mouth states the rules. The island shows which bots read them and which don’t obey. You watch from the promenade. Every creature is a real bot visiting this website.

Case files

Each case file records the sessions that used a named bot’s name and failed Passport Control.

A case is about the session. The operator whose name it used did not send it.

How to read this page

This is a list of cases. Each one is a session that used the name of a well-known bot and failed the check that proves who it is.

The newest cases come first.

A card shows the name that was used, how many sessions it covers and what they did on the island.

Where a card covers several sessions, open its list of sessions to see each one.

No session has failed the check in the trailing 30 days.

Additional info

What a case is

A case
One record, not a judgement on a species, so the Insufficient data floor on the Alignment page does not apply.

It gives the name the session used, the check it failed and what it did on the island.

How it is counted

Sessions that used the same name, came from the same network and did the same things are rolled into one card. That is all the log shows. It does not say one actor sent them.

What is not shown

No address, network, user agent or path is shown.
